Research on Collection Development Based on “You Choose Books,I Pay Bills”:Taking Guangdong Polytechnic Institute as an Example

Abstract:

“You choose books, I pay bills” has become a method of Patron Driver Acquisition (PDA) in library. Analyzing the data of “You choose books, I pay bills”, this paper confirms the effect of “You choose books, I pay bills” on improving the lending ratio of new books. It points out some current problem such as readers' selection of books existing self and entertaining tendencies, only choosing books that readers’ need, the quality of books chosen by readers is restricted by readers’ internal factors, the difficulty of meeting long-deep rang of needs and the book of the bookseller mismatching the professional need, and puts forward some proposals including optimizing the ratio of books bought by readers and purchased by librarians, making the detailed standard of purchasing books, stipulating species and quantities of books on show and perfecting the pattern of “You choose books, I pay bills”.
