An Era of Open Access? Based on the investigation of CSCD & CSSCI Journals

Abstract: This paper aims to evaluate the status and trends of open access publishing in China's major academic journals, and provide reference for the development of academic journals and academic information service systems in China. The open access proportions, types and implementation approaches of 1,229 journals in CSCD and 752 journals in CSSCI were systematically investigated. The result shows the proportion of open access of major academic journals in China has reached 73.20%, while most of which are fully open access journals. The CSCD journals achieved open access are mainly through their official websites, while the CSSCI journals mainly through third-party platforms. Open access has become the mainstream of academic journal publishing in China, and China has entered the era of open access publishing.
